On a recent assignment for the QANTAS Magazine, I came across an absolute gem.  Yallum Park is a Heritage Listed privately owned historic home on the outskirts of Penola on the Millicent Road.  It is well worth a look if you are visiting the area.  The home is open for tours, and owner Glen Clifford is a character and relies on the contributions from visitors...

Mt Hotham Adventure

Australia's snow fields are experiencing record snow falls this year, so myself and Rob along with four of our friends took to the slopes over the last few days, hence my lack of Blog entries! So if you are a keen boarder or skier, or want to take the kids for a day trip, now is the time to get amongst the fun!  The powder snow was fantastic and made it a lot easier to learn - although the inevitable bruised toosh was still apparent!  It was a great weekend and we look forward to heading back before the season is over.

Fantastic conditions...

Recipe of the Week

My apologies for not posting a recipe earlier.   I have been away carving up the slopes in Hotham!  Below is a recipe I made last week.  It is more of a summer dish as it is a salad, however it was delicious.  I have just bought a cookbook on Moroccan food and if nobody has cooked Moroccan before, I highly recommend cooking something from this North African region.  Lots of spices and vegies.

First Fridays Exhibition at Molten

Posted by Jo on 17 August 2010 | 0 Comments

As most locals of Mount Gambier would know, Molten Cafe in Commercial Street West hosts an exhibition commencing the first Friday of every month showcasing local artists and their talents.  Opening the first Friday in September is a collection of artworks by locals, Kristyn Jones, Melissa Horton, Simone Kain, Anna Mitchell and Bianca Grills with guests, Susie Clarke and Ben Hood.  The theme is The Limestone Coast.  Below is a sneak peak at one of their works.  So pop in out of the cold, buy a coffee or hot chocolate and admire the work of these talented locals.  This exhibit is a sneak preview to their larger November exhibition. Watch this space...

Tuna Carpaccio

Okay, okay, I may be getting ahead of myself.  But the sun is out today, (hello, it's nice to see you again.  You have been gone for far too long...) and there is a certain spring feel to the air.  That can only mean one thing - Summer is on it's way!  Well, actually, it's not here for another 4 months, but let's just play along. Anyway, in my excitement of warmer weather approaching, I thought I would post a recipe for a lovely dish which would be great for an entree at a dinner soiree.  I know carpaccio isn't everybody's cup of tea, whether it be beef or tuna, but below is an easy and, (although I haven't made it as yet) delicious recipe for tuna carpaccio.  Bring on the warmer weather!!!

Over the last few months, I have been making a record of Rob and our farm.  A sort of tribute if you will!  Here are some of my favourite images so far...
Guests of our wedding will find these familiar!

My nephew, Harry, always looks so happy at the farm...

Aveda Chakra Body Sprays

I have stumbled upon an absolute gem.  I'm not sure about anybody else, but I am quite interested in the world of Reiki and Chakra balancing.  I have discovered Aveda Chakra Body Sprays which help your moods and give you a 'lift' if need be.  My favourite is Chakra 4, which is the heart chakra.  This spray helps you feel Harmony and Balance.  As well as being all natural, they smell divine and give you a little boost to your day.  Enjoy!

A good friend of mine, Jemma Gawned, has founded a new business called Naked Treaties.  It is a line of delicious morsels which are raw, organic, vegan, gluten, dairy and sugar free.  Yes, tasty morsels which are good for you!  My favourite are the Chai Balls.  Jemma has a phenomonal understanding of nutrition and what is good for the body.  And if it tastes delicious, it's even better!  Click on the link above to see Jemma's website and where you can get your little fingers on these Naked Treaties!

Peony Melbourne and Fragonard

A woman can spend years searching for her favourite scent.  For me, it is a perfume called Fragonard which my parents bought me on a trip to France.  Imagine my worry when I was informed I could no longer receive it in the post due to changed Customs laws! However, after a visit to PEONY in Auburn Road Hawthorn, I was delighted to learn this boutique perfumery stocks Fragonard as well as other international scents for both women and men.  For people living in Melbourne, it is well worth a visit.  For visitors to Melbourne, put it on you to-do list.  It is a stunning boutique which makes you feel as though you have been transported to Paris for a short while...  Truly beautiful...

Peter Lik's 'Ancient Spirit'

On a trip to Noosa 2 years ago, my husband, Rob, and I found out about Peter Lik - one of the world's best known and talented landscape photographers.  He is a Melbourne born, Las Vegas based photographer who travels the world in search of stunning landscapes to photograph.  Rob and I are fortunate enough to own two of his prints.  This one, 'Ancient Spirit' and 'Icy Waters' which we were given by our friends for our recent wedding.  If you are not familiar with his work, log onto www.peterlik.com and have a peep at his photographs. You will be glad you did!
